Sean Grasso is a cinematographer turned director/producer based in Corvallis, Oregon. In 2012, he began creating short film portraits of craftspeople, multiple of which were awarded a Vimeo Staff Pick. Over the last decade he’s worked as a documentary and commercial cinematographer around the world for numerous productions. In 2021, after a close encounter with California’s largest wildfire, he shifted towards directing — focusing on the stories at the intersection of environmental and social forces.

His short film, The Butterfly Lab, won the Artistic Vision Award at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in 2026. He is currently producing his first feature-length documentary in co-production with ITVS. Titled The Caldera, the film follows the story of the rural community on the frontlines of the development of one of the world’s largest lithium deposits.
