Sean Grasso is a filmmaker based in Corvallis, Oregon focused on stories where environmental and social forces converge.

He began his career in 2012 creating intimate short documentaries about craftspeople, several of which were awarded Vimeo Staff Picks. Over the next decade, he worked as a documentary and commercial cinematographer, developing a patient, observational style.

In 2021, after a close encounter with California’s largest wildfire, he shifted toward directing. His recent films center on communities navigating environmental, institutional, and economic pressures.

He is currently directing and producing his first feature-length documentary, The Caldera, an observational film set in southeastern Oregon that follows an a rural community at the forefront of the proposed development of one of the world’s largest lithium deposits.

When he isn’t in the field or immersed in footage, Sean is hiking, following the Premier League, or navigating life with his young son.
