Sean Grasso is a filmmaker based in Corvallis, Oregon, whose work explores the intersection of environmental and social forces.
He began his career in 2012 directing intimate short documentaries about craftspeople, several of which were recognized as Vimeo Staff Picks. Over the following decade, he worked as a documentary and commercial cinematographer, honing a patient, character-driven visual style.
In 2021, after a close encounter with one of California’s largest wildfires, he shifted toward directing projects centered on communities navigating environmental, institutional, and economic pressures. His short film The Butterfly Lab won the Artistic Vision Award at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.
He is currently directing and producing his first feature-length documentary, The Caldera, an observational film set in southeastern Oregon that follows a rural community confronting the proposed development of one of the world’s largest lithium deposits.
